One of the most well-known enrichment clubs at MOM is “Tail Waggin’ Tutors”. Therapy dogs visit the learning center and the children get to read to these lovable, furry friends. Every student looks forward to this time where they read to a non-judgmental friend like Cookie.
How long have you volunteered at MOM?
My name is Cookie, the Reading Dog. Barb brought me to MOM. We have been visiting the boys and girls for 5 years now! I feel I have grown up here. I’m 6 years old now!
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at MOM?
I love coming to MOM and listening to the stories when everyone reads their books. But what I enjoy THE most is when the boys and girls talk to me, and I can do tricks for them. I love to roll over, and to press the EASY button! Not to brag, but I am pretty good at catching a treat right in my mouth. Thursdays are special days because of my visits to MOM!
What advice would you give to others who may be interested in volunteering at MOM?
I think everyone who volunteers at MOM’s should be the best they can be! It is worth it.
What do you do when you aren’t volunteering at MOM?
Did you know that I had a job, and I even got paid? I was a model for Midwest Metal Products right here in Muncie for their dog crates, dog beds, and doggy gates. My picture was used on Amazon.com.
During the pandemic, I could not get a haircut, just like Barb. My friend came by and told me I look like a totally different dog with my long hair. Most of the time at home, I am just chillin’ outside while Barb does gardening. I look for SQUIRRELS!!
Thank you Cookie (and Barb) for volunteering at MOM. The students LOVE to read to the “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” every week.
